Brian Eno Urges Backing to Send Together for Palestine Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A charity drive is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project aims to deliver assistance to people in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Chance for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a opportunity to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Resilient Spirit of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Production History and Featured Artists
The song was recorded in the wake of a solidarity show held in September. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the performance was omitted from the lengthy event due to the event running long.
The diverse array of musicians contributing to Lullaby encompasses a range of well-known figures from the scene. All participated in the benefit event, which managed to collect a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a team of producers and composers. The track blends a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The organizers behind the initiative have stated that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These donations will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a representative explained. “We aim for as much as possible. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The context in the territory was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of buildings described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a few million won't make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The track is set to be released at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
