Israelis have assembled across the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted attack on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations proceeded in the neighboring country over an end to the conflict in Gaza.

The incident saw over 1,200 people killed and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Second World War.

Israel responded by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are seen as accurate by the UN and other international bodies.

"Our bloodthirsty enemies have hit us hard, but they have not defeated us," the leader added on that day.

He also pledged to "realize all the goals of the war: the release of all the abducted, the removal of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will not pose a threat to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The government authorities rescheduled state commemorations until mid-October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still were held throughout the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the families of Israelis who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was conducted in Tel Aviv. Organized by the victims' relatives, it was televised on Israeli broadcast stations.

Hours earlier, a minute's silence was observed across the country.

Negotiation Meetings in Egypt

Simultaneously, both sides' negotiating teams convened in the North African tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to review the terms of the agreement.

A prominent representative familiar with the talks said that an evening round of indirect talks commenced at evening in Egypt.

The representative explained the earlier meeting finished without concrete outcomes, due to conflicting views over the suggested Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas demands to make certain Israel does not resume fighting after the first phase of the agreement.

He noted that the negotiations are "difficult and have still not deliver any significant progress," but mentioned that facilitators are making efforts to reduce the gaps between the conflicting groups.

Essential Issues in Discussions

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The exchange of the hostages still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for assistance distribution
  • Post-war governance of the territory

Public Feeling

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square that day, 29-year-old a woman - whose brother lived through the assault on the gathering, where hundreds were lost their lives and many more were captured by Hamas gunmen - explained: "No place appears as home any longer and until every captive come back none of us will be secure."

"Once we see everybody home again, we can relax anew. Then we can start to heal," she added.

Outside the prime minister's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people congregated to show their support for the relatives of the abducted. Israel states 48 stay in confinement in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be surviving.

Protester a participant explained: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement necessary for the captives to come back home. But we really want assurances that we will be secure."

Surveys now regularly indicate that around seventy percent of Israeli citizens want the conflict to finish in return for the liberation of the captives.

Gaza Conditions

At the site of Nova festival, grieving people gathered to honor the dead.

From there, the sound of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses said the severe Israeli attacks continued.

In the main city, bombardments were documented in the dawn of that day in the west side neighborhood, sector and locality areas and in the eastern district of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the northwestern area.

"Once the dusk arrives, the dread arrives with it," relocated Gaza City resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing previously, shared.

"My family are afraid of the attacks. During nighttime we are sleeping together, clinging, particularly my smallest child who rests his head on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we monitor the news to see the situation. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be achieved and that the conflict will return to us."

Medical Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City said it had taken in the remains of six people by the afternoon, including three killed in an Israeli strike in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

A different healthcare center in the south region of Khan Younis indicated additional dead people had been transported. One of them was killed by Israeli soldiers while seeking assistance to the southern area, medics said.

The territory's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
