Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
