Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his future after a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the club's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from management,” Slot stated.
“It's important to change things and earn three points naturally but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular discussions I feel the trust. However I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Response
The manager lamented recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a phase like this with performances this poor.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
