The President Welcomes Loved Ones of Attacked Military Soldiers to White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.
He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Tragic Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Memorials across the state have occurred in their remembrance.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a White House visit for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president told the press. “And in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.”
Community Support
Community members assembled over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to support policing efforts in DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that educators wished for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that inspired people around her,” the principal, the leader of her previous school, informed the media. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Service plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Judicial Actions and Policy Changes
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the government to pause asylum applications and temporarily stop issuing visas to owners of travel documents.
Condition of Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey said on television.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she planned to speak to his relatives.
Memory of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with distinction, according to the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had fortitude,” he told the crowd at the vigil. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
