This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life without fear.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
