Three-time award winner Nikola Jokic endures a 'heartbreaking' leg setback.
Triple National Basketball Association MVP Nikola Jokic sustained a "devastating" injury to his knee when the Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 at the Heat.
Jokic was hurt late in the first half during an inadvertent collision with fellow Nugget Jones.
His teammate landed on the foot of the big man, who immediately collapsed to the court clutching his knee.
The 30-year-old, who tops the NBA season in boards and assists, posted 21 points and eight assists in the game before suffering the problem.
The player is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday to assess the seriousness of the issue.
"Right away, Jokic realized there was a problem," commented Denver coach David Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Any player that is injured, that's difficult, most notably a player as talented as him. We'll find out more on Tuesday."
"The team will adjust together. Of course, right now, I am focused just about Jokic as a person and the letdown of going through something like that."
